Trail Blazers Web-Surfing Competition

The ninth Trail Blazers web-surfing contest will be held on Saturday, August 10th, at Rockaway Beach Surf Club in Brooklyn. The competition is a celebration of web surfing, with a DJ playing the soundtrack. The event is part of the larger Arcangel Surfware @ Rhizome x New Museum exhibit, which also features a pop-up installation by Arcangel and a conversation with artist Cory Arcangel. The exhibition will be hosted by Rebecca Cleman and Ed Halter, curators of Electronic Arts Intermix. Trail Blazers is free to attend with a paid Museum admission.

Trail Blazers

The Trail Blazers web surfing competition pits competitors against each other, and it's free to enter! Unlike most surfing competitions, you can't log in, search, or use the back button in this web surfing contest. Instead, you have to click on links to navigate through a walled garden of sites. Developed by artist Olia Lialina, this competition is an innovative way to test your surfing skills.

World Surf League

The World Surf League is the governing body for professional surfers. This organization aims to showcase the best talent from all over the world. Originally known as the International Professional Surfing, this organization was founded in 1976 by Fred Hemmings and Randy Rarick. Aside from providing financial assistance to competitors, the World Surf League also aims to promote the sport. With its many benefits, it's no wonder why the league has become a worldwide phenomenon.

In addition to its surfing events, the WSL also has a television and media division, producing 500 hours of live content. The league's affiliate WaveCo owns the world's largest high performance human-made wave. The WSL has regional offices across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. It also broadcasts its events live on social media. Aside from broadcasting, the League also offers a digital version of the competition.

International Surfing Association

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is the governing body of surfing, bodyboarding, SUP racing, and all other wave-riding sports around the world. The ISA is recognized by the International Olympic Committee. To learn more about ISA membership, click here. The ISA is one of the most widely recognized organizations for international competitions, with over 450 member countries, including the United States and China. Here are the benefits of membership, and how to get involved.

The ISA is comprised of a president, an executive director, and four vice presidents. These leaders work with ISA staff throughout the year to develop strategies and plans to enhance the sport. For example, the ISA's President, Justine Dupont, has medaled in three disciplines and is now chair of the ISA's commission on women's surfing. She has a history of making waves in her hometown of Los Angeles, and is a good example of the sport's global reach.
